2026 Current Conditions

Our weekly monitoring and updates are officially underway for the 2026 season!

6/4/2026: Cooler air temperatures last week, combined with above-average weekend rainfall, led to a slight decrease in Lake Winnisquam's surface water temperatures.

The lake is currently weakly stratified, with a shallow thermocline located at approximately 23 feet. Water levels remain elevated throughout the watershed, and a No Wake Order has been issued for our downstream neighbors on Silver Lake. High water levels can increase shoreline erosion and damage docks, boats, and other waterfront infrastructure.

As you enjoy time on the water, please operate responsibly and minimize wake whenever possible. Reducing wake during high-water conditions helps protect shorelines, docks, and critical wildlife habitat, including our nesting loon families.

Our Plankton Patrol volunteers were out monitoring yesterday and found no signs of cyanobacteria. Even more encouraging, they observed a very robust population of zooplankton, an important indicator of a healthy lake ecosystem. We'll be sharing more about what we're seeing under the microscope! Contact us to join the Plankton Patrol.

Finally, cooler water temperatures serve as an important reminder to use caution when recreating on or in the water. Even on warm days, cold water can quickly affect swimmers, paddlers, and boaters. Always wear a life jacket and be prepared for changing conditions.

Public beach sampling will begin in mid-June, so stay tuned for updates as that data becomes available.
