LakeSmart Program
The Winnisquam Watershed Network, in partnership with NH LAKES, has appointed two LakeSmart Ambassadors for Lake Winnisquam beginning in April 2026. Cindy O’Connell, our longtime program manager, and WWN Board Member Arlene Hajjar, will be spearheading the program to bring this lake-friendly living NH LAKES voluntary program to our watershed community. LakeSmart is a free, community-powered program designed to help you protect the lake you love right from your own backyard. Whether you’ve been living by the lake for years or are new to the area, LakeSmart offers personalized, practical advice on maintaining a healthy lake through simple landscaping and lifestyle choices. Participation is free, voluntary, and non-regulatory, not to mention fun!
Become a Member of the Winnisquam LakeSmart Community
With the help of our LakeSmart Ambassadors, we will be organizing LakeSmart Property Tour Days, where NH LAKES-trained LakeSmart Guides visit properties in person, to provide friendly, science-backed tips tailored to your lakefront lifestyle. Our Ambassadors will help rally our community and ensure that these efforts grow and succeed.
The LakeSmart Ambassadors will work with NH LAKES to establish days for in-person tours. Property owners must connect with their LakeSmart Community to receive an in-person property tour. Tours are scheduled on weekdays from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM..
The initial step is to become a member of the Winnisquam LakeSmart Community by signing up for your own LakeSmart Profile.
The LakeSmart Award

The LakeSmart Award is the final step, and is given to property owners who are dedicated to achieving the highest standard of lake-friendly living. Once you think your property is ready to be considered for the LakeSmart Award, you can choose to request a site visit from LakeSmart evaluators. You may receive some additional tips, or you could earn the coveted LakeSmart Award on the spot!
The Winnisquam Watershed Network encourages all watershed residents to give the LakeSmart Program a try. It’s a quick and easy way to ensure that we’re all educated about the best ways to care for our properties so that our lakes can have a healthy future.
